How to Hide TV Wires After Wall Mounting in San Diego

A wall-mounted TV can make a room look clean, modern, and more open. But after the TV is mounted, one common question comes up:

What should we do with the wires?

Visible TV wires can make a nice installation look unfinished. The good news is that there are several ways to make the setup look cleaner, depending on the wall type, outlet location, TV mount, and what the customer wants.

At MountFix SD, we help customers in San Diego and nearby areas with TV mounting and simple cable management options.

1. The Easiest Option: Basic Cable Management

Sometimes the customer wants a simple and fast setup. In that case, basic cable management may be enough.

This can include organizing the TV power cord, HDMI cable, or other wires behind the TV and securing them to the mount when possible. This does not fully hide the wires, but it can make the setup look cleaner and prevent loose cables from hanging everywhere.

This option can work well when:

  • The customer wants a quick installation

  • The outlet is close to the TV

  • The TV is on a full-motion mount

  • The customer does not want extra wall work

  • The customer does not want to add a cable cover

For one TV mounting job in a wood-frame home, the customer wanted a simple and fast installation. We mounted the TV on a full-motion mount and used the included strap to help organize the cord near the mounting system.

2. A Cleaner Option: Plastic Cable Cover

A plastic cable cover, also called a cable raceway, is one of the most popular ways to make TV wires look cleaner without opening the wall.

A cable cover is installed on the outside of the wall and helps hide visible wires between the TV and the outlet. It is a good option for many apartments, condos, rentals, and homes where the customer wants a clean look without major wall work.

This option can work well when:

  • You want wires to look more organized

  • You do not want to cut into the wall

  • You are renting

  • The wall type makes in-wall wire hiding difficult

  • The outlet is below or near the TV

  • You want a simple, clean, and affordable solution

A cable cover can usually be painted to match the wall color, depending on the product.

For a recent TV mounting job in Downtown San Diego, we installed a 51-inch TV on a full-motion mount and used a plastic cable cover to help hide the visible wires. This made the setup look cleaner while keeping the installation simple.

3. What About Hiding Wires Inside the Wall?

In-wall wire hiding can create the cleanest look, but it is not always the right option for every home.

There are a few important things to consider:

  • Wall type

  • Outlet location

  • Building rules

  • Rental or condo restrictions

  • TV power cord safety

  • Whether the right in-wall rated materials are being used

A regular TV power cord should not simply be pushed inside the wall. If the customer wants a true in-wall setup, the installation needs to be done with the correct in-wall rated kit or by adding the proper outlet solution.

For that reason, MountFix SD currently focuses on simple and clean cable management options, such as plastic cable covers and organizing visible wires when possible.

4. Full-Motion Mounts and Wires

Full-motion TV mounts are great because they allow the TV to move, extend, and turn. But they also need extra attention when it comes to wires.

Because the TV can move away from the wall, the cables need enough room to move safely with the mount. If the wires are too tight, they can pull, bend, or get in the way when the TV is adjusted.

For full-motion mounts, cable management should allow the TV to move while keeping the setup as clean as possible.

Before finishing the job, it is important to check:

  • Can the TV move without pulling the cord?

  • Are the wires hanging too low?

  • Is the outlet close enough?

  • Would a cable cover make the setup look better?

  • Does the customer want a simple setup or a cleaner finished look?

5. Which Wire Hiding Option Should You Choose?

The best option depends on your wall, TV location, and how clean you want the final result to look.

Choose basic cable management if you want:

  • A quick setup

  • No extra wall work

  • A simple installation

  • A lower-maintenance option

Choose a plastic cable cover if you want:

  • A cleaner look

  • Wires covered on the outside of the wall

  • No major wall opening

  • A good option for apartments, condos, or rentals

Ask about in-wall options if you want:

  • The cleanest possible look

  • No visible wires

  • A proper in-wall rated solution

  • Electrical work or outlet relocation, if needed

6. What to Tell Us Before Booking

Before your TV mounting appointment, it helps to know:

  • Your TV size

  • What type of mount you have

  • Whether the mount is fixed, tilt, or full-motion

  • Where the outlet is located

  • Whether you want wires covered

  • Whether you are in a house, apartment, condo, or rental

  • Whether your wall is drywall, wood stud, metal stud, concrete, or unknown

If you are not sure, that is okay. We can check the setup and explain the best simple option for your space.
